The White House launched a media “Hall of Shame” as Trump escalated attacks on outlets he labels “fake news.” Officials created the portal to document what they claim are hoaxes, partisan smears, or anonymously sourced stories, ensuring no item escapes public attention.

    Major Outlets and Alleged Offenses

The site lists The Washington Post as “Offender of the Week” and criticizes The New York Times, CNN, CBS News, and The Independent. It details claims against reporters, organizes them by category, and includes accredited agencies like AP and Reuters, citing bias, lies, and omissions. Other categories include circular reporting, failure to report, false claims, malpractice, mischaracterization, misrepresentation, and left-wing lunacy. Matt Murray, executive editor of the Post, condemned the targeting and vowed to continue rigorous reporting.

Reactions and Threats to Press Freedom

The site excludes conservative-leaning outlets. Media Research Centre praised the effort, calling it stronger than previous Republican campaigns. Experts told DW that the portal threatens journalists and undermines press freedom and democracy. Trump intensified his anti-“fake news” campaign while receiving criticism for insulting reporters, often women, calling them ugly, stupid, and piggy.
