Gunmen opened fire at Bondi Beach, killing ten people, including one attacker. More than a dozen others suffered injuries during the attack. A Hanukkah event drew hundreds of people to the area when the shooting began. Authorities are actively investigating the attackers’ motives.

New South Wales Police confirmed ten fatalities, identifying one of the dead as a gunman. Officers reported that another suspected shooter remains in critical condition. Eyewitnesses described over a dozen people lying on the ground, many covered in blood. They also said dozens more suffered injuries in the attack.

Authorities respond amid panic and confusion

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese posted a statement on X, offering condolences and urging public caution. He praised police and emergency responders for working quickly to save lives. Albanese said authorities continue collaborating with NSW Police to confirm details and provide updates.

NSW Police warned the public around 7:30 p.m., instructing people to shelter or avoid Bondi Beach. Videos circulating on social media showed crowds fleeing as gunshots and sirens echoed across the area. Authorities moved rapidly to secure the scene and protect civilians.

    Investigations continue as questions remain

About 2,000 people attended the Hanukkah event during the attack, but officials have not confirmed whether the group was targeted. Investigators continue reviewing footage, witness accounts, and other evidence to determine motives.

Social media videos showed police detaining two suspects on a civilian bridge. Eyewitnesses reported the suspects firing what appeared to be sniper rifles earlier. Witnesses said gunmen fired more than 50 shots at beach-goers, vehicles, and nearby civilians. Authorities continue collecting evidence and questioning witnesses.
