India US G7 meeting discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump focused on strengthening strategic cooperation, expanding trade talks, and reviewing progress on regional peace efforts. The leaders met on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian, France, on 17 June 2026.

Narendra Modi met Donald Trump during the summit to review ongoing cooperation between the two countries. Both leaders highlighted progress in key areas such as defence, trade, energy, and technology under their joint strategic framework known as COMPACT.

The leaders discussed efforts aimed at ending ongoing conflict in West Asia and restoring stability across the broader region. Prime Minister Modi praised President Trump’s role in supporting recent understandings that helped reduce tensions and improve prospects for peace.

Security in key global trade routes was also a major topic. Modi emphasized the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation and safe commercial movement in the Strait of Hormuz. He also stressed the need to protect seafarers and ensure uninterrupted global maritime trade.

Both sides reviewed the progress made under the India–U.S. COMPACT initiative, which was launched to deepen cooperation in military partnership, technology exchange, energy collaboration, and trade expansion. Officials said the framework has helped accelerate coordination across multiple sectors since their last major meeting in Washington in 2025.

Trade negotiations were another key focus of the discussion. The leaders welcomed progress in talks on an interim bilateral trade agreement. They instructed their teams to work toward a balanced and mutually beneficial deal that could support stronger economic ties between the two countries.

A US Trade Representative is expected to visit India next week to continue negotiations. Both governments aim to move quickly toward a framework that supports commercial growth and reduces barriers to trade.

The meeting also reaffirmed the broader India–US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. Both leaders expressed commitment to strengthening cooperation across defence, strategic technologies, and energy security. They emphasized that closer ties would benefit both nations and support global stability.

Officials said the discussion reflected growing alignment between India and the United States on major geopolitical and economic issues. Cooperation on security, maritime stability, and technology development continues to expand under ongoing diplomatic engagement.

The G7 summit provided an opportunity for both leaders to review international developments and align positions on regional challenges. The focus on West Asia, global trade routes, and economic partnerships highlighted the increasing importance of coordinated diplomacy.

Experts say the meeting signals continued strengthening of India US relations, particularly in areas of defence cooperation and trade policy. The COMPACT framework is seen as a key tool for accelerating bilateral projects and improving strategic trust.

Both sides are expected to continue high level engagement in the coming months as negotiations on trade and security cooperation move forward.
