China Halts Entry of Nvidia H200 AI Chips Despite US Approval

Nvidia’s H200 artificial intelligence chips have been blocked from entering China, even though the processors were recently cleared for export by the United States, according to reports.

Chinese customs officials have reportedly told agents the chips are not permitted, prompting suppliers to pause production amid uncertainty. Authorities have also warned Chinese tech firms against buying the H200 unless essential, without clarifying whether the move is a formal ban or a temporary restriction.

The situation adds to growing confusion after the US required the Taiwan-made chips to pass through American testing facilities, triggering a 25% tariff. Analysts remain split on whether allowing such powerful AI chips into China is strategically wise or a potential security risk.
