President Donald Trump voted by mail in Florida’s Republican primary, according to Palm Beach County voting records and a White House confirmation.
The vote has drawn new attention because Trump has often spoken against mail voting. He has also backed limits on mail ballots and questioned the safety of the voting method.
Trump is a resident of Palm Beach, Florida. He also spends much of his time at the White House in Washington, DC. This allows him to take part in Florida elections even when he is not in the state.
A White House spokeswoman confirmed that Trump mailed his ballot. She said the president is a Palm Beach resident and takes part in Florida elections.
Trump mailed the ballot on August 13, according to the report. This is at least the third time he has used a mail ballot to vote.
Trump first registered to vote in Palm Beach County in 2019. He then voted by mail in 2020. He also used a mail ballot during a special Florida statehouse election earlier this year.
The latest vote comes as Trump continues to push for changes to US election rules.
In March, Trump signed an executive order that sought to limit the use of mail ballots before the November midterm elections. Those elections will decide control of the US Congress.
A federal judge has since blocked part of the order. The Trump administration has asked the Supreme Court to step in over the dispute.
Trump has long criticized mail voting. He has also repeated false claims about fraud in the 2020 election. Courts and election officials found no evidence that widespread fraud changed the result of that election.
On Monday, Trump again raised concerns about voting rules in a post on Truth Social.
He pointed to voting rules in India and argued that US elections should require stronger voter ID rules. He also called for Congress to pass the SAVE AMERICA Act.
Trump’s latest mail vote has added a new point to the debate over his election views. His own use of a mail ballot shows that he has used the same voting method he often seeks to limit.
The Florida primary also comes as both parties prepare for the 2026 midterm elections. Mail voting remains legal in Florida, although state and federal officials continue to debate election rules.
Palm Beach County voting records were cited in the initial report about Trump’s ballot. A later report said the public could not view Trump’s voting record on the county election website.
The website stated that his voting record was protected from public disclosure. The White House later confirmed that he had voted by mail.
Trump’s vote is now part of a wider debate about mail voting in the United States. His supporters have backed tighter election rules, while critics say mail voting gives voters more ways to take part.
The issue is likely to remain a key part of the political debate ahead of the November midterms.
Trump’s use of a mail ballot does not change Florida’s voting rules. It does, however, add fresh focus to his past calls for limits on mail voting.
