The 26-year-old outfielder has been playing for High-A Everett this season, where he has posted a batting average of .190 with 27 hits in 142 at-bats. His stat line also includes eight doubles, seven home runs, 22 RBIs, 14 stolen bases, and 17 walks across 44 games. Despite inconsistent batting numbers, he has shown a mix of power and speed that has kept him on the Mariners’ radar.
Washington Jr., who stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 180 pounds, has played multiple outfield positions, including center field and left field, as well as time at designated hitter. He is known for his athletic versatility, which has helped him move through the Mariners’ minor league system since being drafted in the 19th round of the 2022 MLB Draft. Over his minor league career, he has compiled a .219 batting average with 37 doubles, eight triples, 12 home runs, 97 RBIs, and 82 stolen bases in 840 at-bats.
One of his standout career moments came on May 23, 2025, when he hit for the cycle while playing for Single-A Modesto. In that game, he went 5-for-6 with two doubles, a triple, and a home run, showcasing his ability to produce across all offensive categories.
The roster move comes as Seattle continues to monitor key performances in its major league outfield. Randy Arozarena has been one of the team’s standout players this season, delivering strong offensive production and elite base-running. The left fielder is batting .291 with 76 hits in 261 at-bats, along with 18 doubles, seven home runs, 33 RBIs, and 19 stolen bases.
Arozarena has appeared in every one of Seattle’s first 71 games this season and currently leads the team in wins above replacement, according to Baseball Reference. His combination of consistency and speed has made him one of the most valuable outfielders in the American League this year. He was acquired by Seattle in a trade with Tampa Bay in July 2024 and has continued to play a central role in the team’s offense.
Seattle has also been dealing with injury and roster movement involving infielder Wilson, who was recently placed on the 10-day injured list. Wilson has played limited games for the Mariners this season but made an immediate impact by hitting a home run in his first Major League plate appearance. Wilson’s professional path has included multiple organizations since being drafted in the first round of the 2019 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Angels. He was later traded to the San Francisco Giants before being selected by Cleveland in the Rule 5 Draft.
