Pakistan and the United States have reported positive progress after holding two days of trade negotiations in Washington, DC. Officials from both countries said the discussions helped reduce differences and moved them closer to reaching a new reciprocal trade agreement.
The talks took place on July 9 and 10 as representatives from both governments continued efforts to strengthen trade and economic ties.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Tahir Andrabi, said the negotiations were held in a constructive and friendly atmosphere. In a post on the social media platform X, he said both sides worked to resolve outstanding issues and build greater agreement on key parts of the proposed deal.
According to Andrabi, the discussions focused on moving toward the early completion of the Pakistan–United States Agreement on Reciprocal Trade.
Pakistan’s delegation was led by Commerce Secretary Jawad Paul. After the meetings, Paul described the negotiations as positive and said both countries had made significant progress during the latest round of talks.
Officials did not release details about the specific issues discussed during the negotiations. They also did not announce when the agreement could be finalized or whether another round of talks has been scheduled.
The proposed agreement is expected to strengthen trade relations between Pakistan and the United States by creating a more balanced framework for commerce between the two countries.
Trade agreements are designed to improve market access, reduce trade barriers, and encourage investment. They can also help businesses by providing clearer rules for imports and exports.
The United States is one of Pakistan’s largest trading partners. Trade between the two countries includes textiles, agricultural products, medical equipment, machinery, and other manufactured goods.
Economic cooperation has remained an important part of the relationship between Washington and Islamabad. Both governments have continued discussions on ways to increase trade, investment, and business opportunities.
Officials from both sides have said stronger commercial ties can support economic growth and create new opportunities for companies operating in both countries.
Although no final agreement has been announced, the latest negotiations suggest that both governments remain committed to continuing discussions.
The positive tone following the Washington meetings may help maintain momentum as officials work through the remaining issues before a final deal can be completed.
Any future agreement would still need to complete the required approval process before it takes effect.
For now, both Pakistan and the United States say the latest negotiations have brought the two sides closer to a reciprocal trade agreement, with further discussions expected as they continue efforts to finalize the deal.
